Primus Line®

Flexible high-tech system for pipe rehabilitation

Trenchless rehabilitation of gas, water and effluent transport pipes

Application area

The Primus Line® method is ideally suitable for the rehabilitation of transport pipes and pipe systems with a low connection density. Existing pipe systems made of every material can be rehabilitated rapidly and cost-effectively using the Primus Line® method. The flexible high-tech system has an outer PE coating, a seamless fibre middle layer, high-strength Kevlar fibre material and an inner lining suitable for the respective medium. Nominal diameters of 150 to 500 mm can be realised without difficulty for pressure levels from 10 to 50 bar. Cutting lengths of up to 1000 m can be achieved without an intermediate trench, but house service connections and shaped fittings need to be dug out and replaced. Bends of up to 30°/5D present no difficulty.

Quality assurance

The Primus Line® is manufactured in our facility under optimum quality conditions and simply drawn into the old pipe on site. As the on-site liner is neither impregnated with resin nor heated, the focus with regard to quality assurance is on preparation and drawing into the pipe. Obligatory TV inspection and pipe cleaning is standard where the Primus Line® is employed. All data relevant to quality, especially tensile forces acting on the liner and the drawing in speed, are electronically recorded and documented. The personnel involved undergo specialised training by the manufacturer for the installation of the liner and fitting of special couplings.

Procedure description

Primus Line® is a trenchless pipe rehabilitation technique for pressure pipe systems classified in the long pipe relining category with annulus. The old pipe section must be cleaned prior to commencing pipe drawing operations. The success of cleaning is checked through TV inspection and documented on DVD. The drum with the flexible plastic pipe is positioned at the starting pit and the winch on the target pit. The Primus Line® inliner is drawn in at a speed of up to 200 m/hour. Installation lengths of 1000 m have already been realised, as has drawing through bends of up to 30°. Primus Line® can be delivered to installation sites in lengths of up to 4500 m wound onto transport drums. This reduces transport costs considerably. The flexible Primus Line® pressure pipe is linked to pipe systems made of steel, cast material, PE or other pipe materials using connection technology specially developed for Primus Line®. Due to the expense related to street paving and excavation work, the trenchless method can be more cost-effective than conventional installation techniques at even relatively shallow depths. Other economic cost savings are also achieved, such as the avoidance of traffic jams and preservation of the environment through a considerable reduction in CO2 pollution.
