Relining procedure

New pipe, rapid and cost-effective

Trenchless replacement of gas, water and effluent pipes

Application area

The relining procedure is one of the most efficient and well-proven renewal techniques in the world. Existing pipe systems made of every material can be rehabilitated rapidly and cost-effectively using the relining procedure. PE in particular has proven its reliability as new pipe material, due to its high degree of flexibility. However, a great many other materials such as ductile cast iron, PP and GRP are used in relining measures. Nominal diameters from 25 to 2500 mm can be realised with round and oval profiles, depending on requirements. Cutting lengths exceeding 300 m can be achieved without an intermediate trench, but house service connections and shaped fittings need to be dug out and replaced.

Quality assurance

Quality assurance is not just a buzzword for us, but rather an obligation to our customers we take very seriously. In addition to TV inspection and pipe cleaning, the use of state-of-the-art equipment such as CNC-aided welding plants, data loggers, etc. is standard at Swietelsky-Faber. All data relevant to quality, such as welding parameters and, especially, tensile forces acting on the new pipe, are electronically recorded and documented. Highly qualified skilled personnel and ÖVGW-certified plastic pipe fitters who have received comprehensive training are the guarantee of superior-quality workmanship.

Procedure description

When it comes to cost-effectiveness, the relining procedure is indispensable where a defective pipe needs renewing and, in terms of supply technology, a minor cross section reduction is possible. The old pipe section must be cleaned prior to commencing pipe drawing operations. The success of cleaning is checked through TV inspection and documented on DVD. It should be ensured in this respect that the required cross section for the new pipe is achieved in the entire renewal section. Following cleaning and inspection, a slightly smaller pipe section is drawn in via appropriate drawing and winding pits. The new pipe can be welded outside the drawing pit (long pipe relining) or assembled from individual pipes in the installation pit (short pipe relining). The annular gap created between the old pipe system and new product pipe can, if necessary, be grouted with insulating or other suitable materials. The relining procedure is unbeatable in terms of its cost-effectiveness and, it goes without saying, also offers all the advantages of trenchless techniques:

  • The most rapid possible work realisation
  • Protection of the environment and local residents through the minimising of excavation work
  • Preservation of parking and traffic surfaces
